Cerveza Mica successfully completes in three weeks a crowdfunding in which it has already reached 125% of the round

  • Cerveza Mica, one of the most awarded beers since 2011, has managed to reach its goal in the middle of the crisis.
  • The financing round, opened on March 31 through the Crowd Investment division of Fellow Funders for the brewery, will close next Saturday, April 18, in a very complicated scenario due to the COVID-19 crisis.

Aranda del Duero (Burgos), April 16, 2020. Cerveza MICA had to face a new challenge: the COVID-19 crisis. After many weeks of work to get their financing round through Fellow Funders’ Equity Crowdfunding platform, they had two alternatives: to go ahead or to delay it. With several interested investors who, despite the situation, knew and trusted the project, the Cerveza MICA team decided to raise the round on March 31.

After three weeks, a total of 324,500 euros were raised, out of an initial target of 260,000 euros. This represents a 125% investment — the maximum allowed by law in Spain.

Craft beers have revolutionized the market in recent years. However, they are currently suffering from this crisis, since a large part of their clientele is based on the on-trade. Customers are increasingly demanding quality products and diversity, and craft beer is based on these pillars.

There are also many supermarkets that fill their shelves with craft beers, this 2020 is being key in this aspect, and sales of this type of beers are increasing.

Moreover, the online business both plays an important role in this type of products and is becoming increasingly present in our lives. With the COVID-19 crisis, online sales are growing every day and Cerveza MICA is seeing its sales grow thanks to ecommerce.

The quality of its beers, the worldwide awards, its internationalization, its capitalization, and the balance between the on-trade, supermarkets and online markets have been key for its investors to trust in this project.

The participation of Fellow Funders, a leading Crowdfunding company in Spain, has been essential for this purpose. Juan Cereijo, CEO of Cerveza Mica, says, “working with Fellow Funders has been fundamental. There has been complete trust since the beginning and we hope to continue working with them in the future.”

Although the company’s business has been less affected by the COVID-19 crisis (because the brewery also works with supermarkets), it has now taken the initiative to launch disruptive actions, such as using its website to sell local products from the Ribera del Duero region that pair with the selected beers, thus performing a dual function. On the one hand, helping and collaborating with small artisan producers like themselves, and on the other hand, offering experiences to consumers.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, and with this new round, Fellow Funders has accumulated more than 1 million euros, which has strengthened its leadership as an Equity Crowdfunding platform since the State of Alarm was declared in Spain.
